The 2016 Yearling Gathering at Rising Star Ranch

July 15^th Through September 3rd

Having prepped and sold the best yearlings for many years, I have insight on the peaks and pitfalls of yearling prep and marketing. Four years ago we took that experience and developed a new way of showcasing yearlings for our customers that was beneficial to all involved.

Our 3 customers are the Seller, the Buyer and the Yearling. Our goal is to have all of them in the best position to make the sale.

For the Seller, we offer the convenience of only having to load his unhandled yearling on the trailer and deliver to Rising Star Ranch and we can handle the rest. We charge $14 per day for board and care, and a 10% commission when we sell your yearling. We provide the best online catalog in our breed. It is updated daily during The Yearling Gathering where buyers can view your yearlings before they arrive in Shelbyville. We will help you determine the value of your yearling and establish a “Buy It Now” price for your yearling. Your yearling can be viewed multiple times by potential buyers and be seen via Facebook.

For The Seller our methods have produced most recently the following results since our transition to our new sale format:

Our goal for The Seller is by the Saturday before Labor Day your yearling has a new home and you are satisfied with the proceeds.

For the Buyer, our online catalog is an invaluable tool to shop and compare yearlings by photographs, pedigrees, and our personal comments on each yearling. We evaluate each yearlings strengths and weaknesses and opine what future that yearling may have. If we know anything ‘We Know Yearlings!” Our buyers are not unlike NFL coaches looking for that next great draft choice. You can consider our Yearling Gathering, the Tennessee Walking Horse answer to the NFL Scouting Combine. Trainers visit our barn daily to see what has arrived on the next trailer. Yearlings here can be viewed multiple times before making a buying decision.

Our goal for The Buyer is to provide a process where all the buyer’s questions are answered and that they are able to buy with confidence.

For The Yearlings, as we present most of our yearlings “At Liberty” in our show pen without the encumbrance of a handler, we can keep our yearlings fresh without any strain to legs, joints or hooves. This also allows the buyers to easily see the natural gait of all the yearlings that are viewed. Which is very beneficial when buying that new prospect. Our methods we feel have allowed us to present many show ring stars because when they go to the trainer they don’t have to recover from the strain of being presented over and over again by handlers.

Our goal for The Yearling is to have it ready to go to the trainer in a healthy and strong state to begin its next phase of training.
