In the history of the Tennessee Walking Horse breed there probably is no other show horse as renowned as He’s Puttin’ On The Ritz. He has been called “The Secretariat” of Tennessee Walking Horses. As a sire he has produced numerous World Champions in both the performance and pleasure classifications.  He is desired by those wanting a more refined look. His offspring have a high headset, great front end reach and elevation at the knee break. They are very intelligent and maintain what they learn. They do have much drive and stamina. He crosses very well with mares of Coin’s Hard Cash, Prides Gold Coin and Prides Generator lineage. Voted by the Walking Horse Report as the Horse of the Decade in 1990’s, Ritz is one of the few stallions that have reached legendary status. As a breeder of Tennessee Walking Horses, if you want to raise a show horse than start with the best one. You can find no better than He’s Puttin’ On The Ritz.

He’s Puttin’ On The Ritz has been pensioned.

We had discovered Ritz had developed a tumor on one of his testicles before his colic surgery for the stones a couple of years ago. We had the option of castrating him then and risk losing him during the castration or let him live with it and try and get what foals we could get from him. This past year we informed those breeding to him of this matter and gave them the options of swapping to another stallion. HE was not very successful this past year with only a handful of pregnancies. The tumor has gotten larger and harder. We will not operate on him again because we feel he has been through more than most horses can survive already. We only felt it right to end his breeding career with the same dignity that he has been given his whole life.

He is fine and doing well and at 23 still as ornery as ever and still loves visitors. But we will no longer be breeding mares for the public. Thank you to all of those that have bred to Ritz over the years and may his legacy continue through his sons and daughters.

It is with great sadness and a heavy heart to report our beloved He’s Puttin’ On The Ritz laid down in his paddock last night and passed on.

His accolades were many..too many to post at this time. Our sadness comes from not what he did in the ring but what he did in our hearts.

Rest in Peace Ritz
